Every Victim Matters Youth Art Show (April 22 – 28, 2012)
Call For Submissions As part of National Victims of Crime Awareness Week (April 22 - 28, 2012), the Edmonton Restorative Justice Network (ERJN) invites young people between the ages of 12 - 24 to express themselves on the issue of “Every Victim Matters.”
The theme for NVCAW 2012 is “Moving Forward.” Being a victim of crime can be a life-altering experience. How an individual may chose to move their life forward after being victimized will be unique to the person and the situation. All victims deserve to be treated with compassion and respect for their dignity as they move forward on their journey toward healing.
Deadline for Artwork Submissions & Forms: Wednesday March 21, 2012
One submission per artist. Each artwork must have a completed form upon submission to qualify.

High Conflict Personalities and Mediation (April 27 & 28, 2011)
We are pleased to announce that Bill Eddy from the High Conflict Institute will be in Edmonton Wednesday April 27th and Thursday April 28th. He has authored several books on high-conflict personalities and speaks to groups across the globe about managing high-conflict people and high-conflict disputes. This unique opportunity is made available to those individuals that work with community based mediation programs in a volunteer capacity. The aim is to provide an opportunity for participants to gain instruction (tips, tools, techniques and approaches) on how to handle high conflict individuals in mediation as well as screening techniques prior to mediation to identify parties with high conflict personalities. This training is geared toward mediators who are already practicing in the field rather than at newcomers.
There are a limited number of spots available and preference will be given to those who are currently volunteering. Should space be available we will consider individuals that do not currently volunteer, however, they will be required to pay a $100 fee. (Includes coffee and lunch both days). Managing Interpersonal Conflict Workshop Series
“How we speak can open or close doors, heal or hurt, create joy or suffering, and ultimately determines our own degree of happiness.“ - Marshall B. Rosenburg
Our workshops are designed to provide participants with the knowledge and tools for approaching difficult interpersonal situations. Participants will take away awareness of self and others in conflict, as well as communication skills and strategies that can be implemented into their daily lives including with neighbours, family, and the workplace. Participants who attend all three workshops can expect the following key learning objectives:
- Recognize how beliefs, attitudes and feelings about conflict can influence our responses in a conflict situation.
- Identify some of the factors that can contribute to conflict
- Develop awareness of different conflict styles and how to adapt to the unique characteristics of each style.
- Learn about some communication strategies and try out some skills that may help improve a conflictual interpersonal situation.
Communicating Through Conflict (3hrs)
This workshop is an introduction to some core concepts from the field of conflict resolution, as well as communication tools for approaching difficult interpersonal conversations. The purpose of the workshop is increase awareness of self and others in conflict.
Conflict Communication Skills Practice (3hrs)
This workshop is a follow-up to the Communicating Through Conflict workshop and it is required that participants have attended the former. In this workshop facilitators will give participants an opportunity to study and practice conflict communications skills in more depth through role-plays and scenarios.
Style Matters (3hrs)
Facilitators will guide participants through the Kraybill Conflict Style Inventory, a self-assessment tool that helps participants identify their predominant or favoured behaviors when in conflict. The workshop highlights how different styles are useful in different contexts but also focuses on preparing participants to use awareness of conflict styles as a tool for more effective conflict management.
Upcoming Workshop Dates
Public workshops are typically held once a month at Edmonton Public Library or Leisure Centre locations. The Managing Interpersonal Conflict Workshop Series is available to non-profit organization workplaces as well. All workshops are offered at a nominal cost to participants and donations are appreciated and can be made here.
